Looking for breakfast in Michiana? Look no further!

Spread the love

Nobody loves breakfast in Michiana as much as I do, so lately Jason and I have been stepping out of our comfort zone.

Before, when we wanted breakfast in Michiana, we would just go to Tradewinds. I love this place, and it has always been a favorite of mine.

But lately, we wanted to switch things up and find other places that are just as good. I don’t want to miss out on other amazing breakfast restaurants!

Here you will find places we have been to and places that we want to go to. This will be updated more in the future as we venture off to all the other yummy places in the Michiana area.

What I ordered:
California Benedict with avocado and bacon served with hashbrowns

This breakfast in Michiana is in the downtown area of South Bend just across from the South Bend Chocolate Cafe, and I’m shocked that we never noticed it until now since we are regulars at getting coffee at the cafe.¬† It is a small place with also very nice and cozy place.

Bacon was thick and crispy, and the avocado was fresh. There wasn’t much hollandaise sauce like I would have liked, but it was still good! The poached eggs was over cooked and the hash browns were really bland, so I put tons of black pepper and hot sauce on it. That seemed to make it better than what it was, but overall, I’d try this place again, because I’m a sucker for bacon, avocado and hollandaise sauce. ūüėČ

What I ordered:
Greek Skillet –¬†A skillet of American fries, gyro meat, onion and tomato with crumbled feta cheese and topped with 2 eggs any style

This breakfast in Michiana is open 24/7, and I think it is the only place here that you can go get breakfast at 3 am if you want to…lol.¬†

This skillet was different for me. I have never had gyro meat on a skillet before, but it was for sure a winner for me! I really didn’t care for their toast, but we did order a side of bacon and that was heaven!

What I have ordered:
Tradewinds Signature Omelet – Our house omelet stuffed with smoked ham, green peppers, onions, tomatoes and Swiss cheese.

Eggs Benedict  РToasted English muffin topped with grilled ham steak, two eggs and creamy Hollandaise sauce.

The Odd Couple – Golden hash brown potatoes and a buttermilk biscuit slathered in our own sausage gravy.

Tradewinds Famous Quiche РBaked in our own kitchen, topped with creamy Hollandaise sauce, and also served with fresh fruit.

Breakfast Burrito –¬†White flour tortilla stuffed with hash browns, sausage and cheddar cheese then topped with our own sausage gravy, and also served with fruit cup.

Hot Mexican Melt –¬†Scrambled eggs mixed with sausage, green peppers, onions, jalapenos and pepper jack cheese on grilled Texas bread.

Sante Fe Skillet – Scrambled eggs mixed with green pepper, onion, diced ham on top of hash browns then topped with cajun spice and cheddar cheese.

Eskimo Waffle – Golden malted waffle topped with creamy vanilla ice cream, strawberry topping and whipped cream.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and have ordered many different items on their menu, but it is probably my top favorite breakfast in Michiana. Even the coffee is amazing and usually have 10 cups! Just kidding, but it is for sure addicting!

Everything I’ve had here is good, and out of all above, my most favorite is the eggs benedict! I’m a hollandaise sauce addict, and they give you a lot of sauce which makes it excellent to dip your rye toast and fingers into! YUMMY!

The sante fe skillet is my second favorite, and I love putting hot sauce on it.

Another thing about this place is I always leave full for under $30 which includes tip for Jason and I.

What I ordered:
Garden Skillet – Spinach, mushrooms, onions and Swiss cheese topped
with hollandaise sauce and diced tomatoes

Hollandaise sauce on a skillet?? Yes please!!! Every place should do this! I love hollandaise ,and they make it well here, and for sure, they load you up. This place and Tradewinds hooks you up on the hollandaise sauce.

Another thing is you get to decide what type of egg you want on your skillet which is different from most places which is usually scrambled. We have gone here a few times, and I usually switch it up between scrambled and over-easy.

Another good thing about this place is plan to leave stuffed for under $30 which includes tip.

What I ordered:
Breakfast Burrito – jalapeno tortilla filled with chorizo, scrambled eggs, avocado, potatoes, fresh jalapeno, red onion and melted cheese, house-made salsa roja on the side

This place, hands down, has the best coffee in town. The coffee is expensive but worth it! If you love strong coffee like I do, then this is a must for you.

The only down fall about this place is that there is not enough food on the plate, so make sure you order extra sides, so we ordered toast, but the food was of course delicious!

Usually when Jason and I go out to breakfast in Michiana, it cost us under $30 which includes tip. This place is probably the most expensive out of the list and was well over $30, but it was worth every penny! I want to say it cost me about $37 since we ordered sides since it doesn’t come with it unlike most places, and the coffee cost more unlike most places.

What I ordered:
German Omelet – sausage, green peppers, onion, potatoes, cheese and hot sauce

German Special – Potatoes fried with onion, green pepper, sausage, hot sauce and 2 scrambled eggs. Served with toast.

I can’t remember which one of these I ordered above since it was a few months ago, but I remember German and hot sauce. LOL I just know it was yummy and plan on coming back soon. I’m also addicted to hot sauce…

What I ordered:
Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich

The bacon on that sandwich is sooooo good, but it is NOT what you expect from a fast food place. The only thing is that 1 doesn’t fill me up, so sometimes I get 2. For a long time, Jason and I were addicted to these. These sandwiches aren’t cheap either, but well worth every penny!

What I ordered:
Eggs Benedict –¬†A fresh toasted English muffin, topped with thick sliced Canadian bacon and two poached eggs covered with our rich Hollandaise sauce with a side of hash browns.

What Jason ordered: Western Omelet – ham, pepper, onion, cheese with a side of hash browns and toast

THOSE HASH BROWNS! Delicious! They had a nice crunch but moist with a buttery texture, and I love them! The eggs were perfectly cooked, and the hollandaise sauce had a nice tangy flavor. The ham tasted like one of those baked hams that you get on the holidays, and it was a nice big thick chunk. The coffee had a rich flavor and was more like a medium when it comes to strength. My meal was a winner!

Jason said he like his omelet, but it wasn’t any different that you find at one of those places you get at a hotel restaurant. It tasted like it had Velveeta cheese in it. His toast was fire and he shared his toast with me since he was getting stuffed. I’ll have to get a side of toast next time.

We spent $32 and that was after a $5 tip. Not bad! We will come back to this breakfast in Michiana for sure!

What I ordered:

Sausage, Egg & Cheese                                                                                                                                        Bagels Рpumpkin pie, everything, blueberry, french toast, whole grain, cinnamon crunch

Panera bread has changed their eggs and now comes with the yolk. So now when you bite into that sandwich, the yolk flows out and then you have something to dip your sandwich into. Why doesn’t other places do this? It is so good!

I’ve had all sorts of different bagels here from the bluberry, cinnamon crunch, french toast, whole grain, everything bagel and now the pumpkin pie bagel which I had today. I like the crispy brown sugar/powder sugar crust on it and there is cinnamon through out the bagel. It has a sweet flavor which I added the honey walnut cream cheese to it. The cream cheese is smooth with a crunch to it.

This time of the year is my favorite since everything is pumpkin. I would get this again!

What I ordered:

Veggie omelet with hash browns and rye toast РMushrooms, zucchini, pepper/onion mix, broccoli, spinach & feta cheese

I would have to say, that out of all the places we have been to for breakfast in Michiana, the hash browns here are the best, and it had a nice crunch to it with a buttery flavor. You do have to order the hash browns since it does not come with the meal which I’m glad I did, but the omelet I ate in 2 bites and was much smaller than compared to other omelets at other restaurants. I would have still been hungry.

The veggie omelet has saute veggies with amazing flavor and the feta really went well with this dish. The rye toast is a thin piece of bread but was very tasty. The coffee taste the same as other breakfast places. It was still good and strong.

I would for sure come back to this place. So far I’ve liked all the breakfast in Michiana I’ve been to except IHOP. Don’t get me started with their bland food…LOL

This was another great value meal for under 30.  I spent $27 for the two of us and that included a $5 tip.

What I ordered:

Drifter Skillet – Hash browns with bacon, ham, tomatoes, broccoli and mozzarella cheese, topped with two eggs any style, toast or pancakes

The egg choice I made was scrambled with a side of rye toast. This skillet came with fresh veggies, and the broccoli had a nice crunch to it. The bacon was everything you want it to be, but I wasn’t too crazy about the hash browns though. It reminded me more like mash potatoes then actual hash browns. If I could take the hash browns I had at the Curve Cafe and add it to this skillet, oh omg, that would be the awesome!

Jason had the same skillet as me, but he ordered over-easy for the eggs instead of scrambled.  He said his eggs was cooked perfect.

The rye toast was good too and had the caraway seeds in it. I feel like when I go to some of these places, the rye toast doesn’t always have the seeds in it. I do think it makes it taste better.

The service is outstanding. Christina was our waitress, and she was a comedian. I think the biggest con was trying to get into the building, because that door is heavy! LOL

I spent about $29, and that is after a $5 tip. It was a great value for the dollar since they give you a lot of food, and I left so stuffed. With that being said, I for sure would come back to this breakfast in Michiana.

What I ordered:

Apple stuffed french toast with a cream cheese filling
side of bacon

What Jason ordered:

Western Omelet Рgreen pepper, onion, ham, Swiss with a side of toast

I’ve never had stuffed french toast at any breakfast place before, but lately I have been craving to try it. So today is the first for me, and it was delious! It reminded me of apple pie meets french toast with whipped cream on top. The apples had a cinnamon glaze that was on top and in the middle with the cream cheese. The cream cheese didn’t taste like your regular cream cheese. I’m not sure what they added to it, but it was really good.

The coffee was good, but it wasn’t as strong as I’d like it to be.

The bacon…good as usual. I think it is hard to mess up bacon and make it taste bad…lol

The toast! Oh the toast! I’d have to say, the toast here is now my favorite out of all the places we have been to mainly, because the butter is soaked into the bread. Of course, I’m jealous of Jason since it was his toast, and I only had one bite of it.

Jason said his omelet reminded him of the Double Tree hotel breakfast. For those of you who might not know, Double Tree makes omelets in front of you, and it is sooooo good. Expensive, but good. Oh course when we stayed at a Double Tree, we had free breakfast which was included with our room, but the bill would have been $40, and that isn’t with tip. So basically, you are eatting a fancy Double Tree omelet for a fraction of the price.

I would have to say this place was probably the cheapest with the bill at $25 and that includes a $5 tip. Had I not got the side of bacon, it would have been under $20 since the bacon as $3.25, and you get 3 strips. That might sound expensive, but bacon is always worth it!

But the meal itself, was cheap. My French toast was $6.50, and I was stuffed. Jason said he was stuffed too, and it came to $7.50. Not bad! Over all, I’d for sure come back to this breakfast in Michiana, and next time, I’ll get my own toast! LOL

What I ordered:

Breakfast tacos – Two flour tortillas filled with scrambled eggs served with lettuce, cheese, onion and tomatoes and salsa.

What Jason ordered:

Breakfast sandwich – A delicious breakfast sandwich topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, JB’s and eggs. Bread options: Croissant | Bagel | Meat Options: Taco Meat or Sausage

If you are looking for a unique breakfast place this is it. This Puerto rican restaurant has its own taste. They even have their own hot sauce too, and I always have to have hot sauce on my eggs! The flavors are for sure there. Most breakfast in Michiana, taste about the same, but this one is different. The spices are something you won’t find at any other breakfast in Michiana.

Jason said his breakfast sandwich had a sweet sauce on the bun with a sun side up egg, and the egg was cooked perfectly. This was the best breakfast sandwich he has ever had.

Both meals came with homemade chips with seasoning on them, and I’m not much of a chip fan, but these were really good.

My tacos had its own sauce as well and were also good. My regret was that I should have added meat to it, because It didn’t fill me up. The meat choices was Chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, salmon or you can get veggie. If I order this meal again, I would for sure add something more to it. The reason I didn’t was, because I’m so traditional when it comes to breakfast foods. Chicken for breakfast sounds odd to me since eggs, sausage and bacon is what I’ve come custom to. Maybe next time, I’ll step outside my box. ūüėČ

The coffee was out of this world with a strong rich flavor.   It is up there in flavor with the Uptown Kitchen.

After all that have been said, I definitely would come back. This breakfast in Michiana offers something that most places don’t offer, and that is the unique flavor. I want to come back and try their burgers., because those look fire.

The bill came to $19 and after tip was $24 which is not bad! I’d say it was worth the price since you will not find those flavors at other places.

The only cons I would say is that there isn’t a good place to park. It is street parking only, and I wasn’t full after my meal. But that will not stop me from returning. I’ll just order more food next time ūüėČ

What I ordered:

Eggs Florentine Р2 poached eggs on an English muffin with sautéed spinach and bacon topped with our homemade hollandaise sauce, served with hash browns.

What Jason ordered:

Fajita skillet – steak, onions and bell pepper pilled on top of hash browns served with 2 eggs any style and toast

Wow! Why haven’t we ever came here? This was really good, and the next time I come here, it will be hard for me to pick something other than the eggs florentine. This place has earned one of my top choices.

Nobody loves hollandaise sauce as much as I do, and I don’t think I have been to a place yet that I didn’t like the sauce. That buttery texture does so much for this dish. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the bacon was crispy.

The hashbrowns were crispy like they should be. The hashbrowns were good, but I still think Curve Cafe has them beat. My reason is that Curve cafe delievered hashbrowns with a buttery flavor to them, and these did not have that.

The coffee was not much different from other breakfast in Michiana, and I also feel like most of them taste the same.

Jason enjoyed his meal, and said the steak and eggs were also cooked perfectly. He let me have a bite of his, and that steak had great flavor.

We spent $30 and that was after a $5 tip. It was worth it since they give you a lot of food for the money, and I am for sure stuffed.
